15–17 October 2025
The 2025 Annual Conference of the Hungarian Sociological Association will focus on the causes and consequences of the dismantling of democratic institutions in Central and Eastern Europe. Democratic decline in the region is not solely a political phenomenon; it is closely linked to transformations in social structures, community relations, and civic participation. This conference aims to explore the connections between rising inequalities, political polarisation, and the emergence of populism and authoritarianism.
A central question of the conference is whether—and in what ways—changes in social structures drive institutional change.
As part of the programme, a roundtable co-organised by INTERFACED and PROTEST will take place on 15 October at 17:30, featuring participation from several INTERFACED members.
