“Interfacing through Manifestos” was a workshop led by Toma Burean, a project partner from Universitatea Babeș-Bolyai (Romania), who was invited as a guest speaker at the Pride Oradea event in Romania. The workshop aimed to equip members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies with the skills to craft manifestos as an effective tool for communicating grievances to authorities.
During the session, participants analysed the discourse used in various manifestos, paying special attention to their emotional content and the often-overlooked issues championed by marginalised communities. The Interfaced project specifically engages with these forms of alternative discourse—voices that mobilise individuals who are frequently unheard.
Participants discussed how manifestos articulate grievances in direct, uncompromising ways that resonate with groups such as the poor, the youth, and LGBTQ+ individuals. They serve not only as calls to action but also as powerful declarations of existence and resistance.
Pride Oradea 2025 took place from July 25 to July 26. This year marked the fourth consecutive time that local authorities banned the Pride March—an act that underscores the continued marginalisation of the LGBTQ+ community in the region.
Key conclusions from the workshop highlighted the urgent need for official recognition of the LGBTQ+ community by local authorities. Participants emphasised the importance of communicating grievances publicly to assert the visibility and presence of the LGBTQ+ community in Oradea.
Finally, the Interfaced team in Romania gathered valuable insights into how and where LGBTQ+ individuals in Romania express their grievances—and the barriers they face in engaging with institutions and public authorities.
